LOCH FYNE – A POTTED HISTORY

LOCH FYNE is one of the UK’s fastest growing and most successful restaurant companies. Our business started life as a small oyster bar on the banks of Loch Fyne in Scotland – a venture by Johnny Noble, the owner of the Ardkinglas Estate on the west coast of Scotland, and his colleague Andy Lane – a fish farmer and biologist.

Both men were oyster enthusiasts, and they began by growing oysters in the loch and selling them to restaurants all over the UK. They then opened their own oyster bar and, as the restaurant’s reputation grew, tourists from all over the UK commented on how popular the concept would be ‘back home.

There are now 24 Loch Fyne Restaurants across the UK, including the warm and inviting Loch Fyne at Hadley Highstone near Barnet. From the very first oyster bar to the latest restaurant opening, our aim has been to serve the finest quality seafood in friendly and relaxed surroundings and we have remained true to this ambition.

Much of the produce served in the restaurants comes direct from Loch Fyne in Scotland where ‘home grown’ mussels, oysters and scallops are collected daily and delivered fresh to the restaurant along with smoked salmon products from the famous LOCH FYNE Smokehouse.

In line with the environmental precedent set by LOCH FYNE OYSTERS in the earliest days, every care is taken to ensure that all seafood products used at the LOCH FYNE RESTAURANTS are derived from wild, free range or sustainable resources. The salmon, for example, comes mainly from Loch Duart in the far north west of Scotland. Here the farming programme has become the benchmark for all others to follow and the RSPCA has recognised its excellence in caring for both the fish and the marine environment by awarding it ‘Freedom Foods’ accreditation.

This care and attention means a great deal to our customers and to our employees who feel confident in our product promise knowing that we
work with environmental organisations and respond to the latest information on the marine ecosystem.
