THE FINE ART OF DINING - SOTHEBY'S CAFE
Sotheby's, the world-famous auctioneers, situated on London's New Bond Street, has an added attraction, a fashionable new Cafe. The Cafe opened in May 1996 and has since become a well-establised and popular venue for Breakfast, Lunch and Afternoon Tea.
The Small, elegant Cafe is to be found on the ground floor of Sotheby's adjacent to the main reception and making it the perfect place for Sotheby's clients before, after or during auctions, or for Bond Street shoppers or simply those who enjoy good food in a sophisticated setting.
Breakfast at the Cafe offers a wide choice of house blend coffees and teas, accompanied by a choice of freshly made breads, croissants and parties. Alternatively, for a more substantial start to the day, fruity muesli or deliciously creamy srambled eggs with smoked salmon is also on the menu.
The cooking is modern British in inspiration, expertly interpreted by the chef, Caroline Crumby, with an emphasis on fresh produce. The lunch menu, which changes daily, offers a choice of starters, main courses and puddings, plus excellent British cheeses. One constant feature, however, on the Cafe's menu is the Lobster Club sandwich, the favourite of Sotherby's owner, Mr. Alfred A. Taubman.
The short wine list, carefully selected by the head of Sotheby's International Wine Department, Serena Sutcliffe MW, comprises a choice of fine wines from around the world in a range of prices, all of them available by the glass. For those with reason to celebrate, there is always Sotheby's excellent house Champagne and for the serious wine connoisseur, the Sotheby's reserve wine list has an additional choice of 15 select wines.
The Cafe is managed by Sally Heyes whose considerable experience includes having worked for top flight London restaurants, Le Caprice and the Ivy.
