Situated right between Hyde Park Corner and Green Park, Citrus Restaurant offers Londoners a traditional Italian culinary experience at affordable prices. Even within the glamorous setting of The Park Lane Hotel and facing out onto the busy Piccadilly Road, the restaurant still holds its own as a stylish and quaint setting.
The food is traditionally Italian but Citrus has squeezed its own mark onto its fantastically diverse and rich seasonal menu. The starters boast Limoncello Cured Salmon Carpaccio, Chicken Broth, winter vegetables and Gnoccheti Pasta and Grilled Vegetable and Goats Cheese Salad, to name a few. A fine glass of the earthen wood Montepulciano dâAbruzzo effectively accompanied my Smoked Chicken Risotto.
The main courses are equally as varied. Sticking with my red wine I went for the Chicken Saltimbocca (translated literally, âjumps in the mouthâ), while my companion, being winter, chose Denham Estate Venison Hot Pot topped with Potato and Celeriac Dauphinoise. The chicken, wrapped in salty prosciutto ham, was moist and was complimented by the gnocchi and crispy Brocolli. The venison was tender while the cream of the dauphinoise softened the piping heat of the quite accurately described hot pot.
Desserts are the usual Italian classics with the occasional Citrus twist, such as the Baked Lemon and Mascarpone Tart with Raspberries. The Chocolate Panettone Bread, Butter Pudding and Cassata Ice Cream serves up a smart British-Italian combination.
A three course meal for two people with wine comes to around £30-40 per head.
