As if Hammersmith wasn’t already bursting with restaurants, this new Indian aims to crack the market with authentically made fare. Now which Indian doesn’t claim that? Trouble is that it’s sandwiched between such quality Indians as Indian Zing and Agni, already firmly established. Still, there’s much to like here though the sedate, cream-coloured and rather old fashioned décor isn’t quite one of them. It’s as if it can’t decide whether it’s trying to be a cheap and cheerful type of outfit or something more upmarket. Similarly, while the cooking works on the whole, there are several misfires too. Chef Rajendar Kumar, whose training at such illustrious Delhi hotels as the Sheraton and Morya have put him in good stead, delivers an ace with the charcoal cooked garlic chicken. The dish features on the bone chicken in a finger-lickingly delicious garlic flavoured sauce that is just divine. Lobster kalimirch is another bullseye with a faintly taste infused with lime, fennel and curry leaves. But on the down side the deep fried mushroom dish of kure kure mushroom with cottage cheese and vegetable pickle is negligible while the lamb tandoori items and the mutton chops are conventional and flavourless. Hit and miss indeed.
