Indian Seasoning Restaurant and Lounge

Seasonings Restaurant and Lounge
84D- 86 Lillie Road
Fulham
London SW6 1TL

Surrounded by drab brick, Seasonings Restaurant and Lounge sticks out clearly from its surroundings on Lillie Road. The green exterior is alluring, though seemingly out of place. Inside, the feel of a mod Indian restaurant comes across spectacularly complete with ivy vines, a small water fountain, and various statuaries. To further set the mood, Indian music plays in the background really filling out the authenticity of the experience.

The food was all divine and very genuine in flavor. To start we had the Vegetarian starter platter, which consisted of aloo tikki, pepper coated mushrooms, walnut kebab sheek, and veggie samosa, and the Prawn Puri. The aloo tikki was crispy and oily from being fried with a delicious mushy potato and Italian herb center that added an unexpected seasoning that paired perfectly and delighted. The pepper coated mushrooms had a crunch breaded coating with juicy mushrooms that were very earthy, not nutty, and had the heat kick from the pepper. The walnut kebab sheek was also very earthy with a light nuttiness. The veggie samosa, flakey with a creamy potato filling. Switching to some protein, the prawn puri gave me the spiciness I was craving. The prawns, perfectly cooked, in a thick tangy and spicy sauce was all piled atop a piece of lightly fried bread.

For the main course we ordered the Chicken Jalfezi and Bombay Aloo. The chicken jalfrezi featured some of the most tender and juicy chicken I’ve had along with crispy peppers in a slightly sweet and tangy sauce that had a punch of heat. The Bombay aloo could satisfy any potato lover or hungry vegetarian. The potato chunks were intensely soft so that upon first bite it turned to mashed potatoes in your mouth drenched in a tomatoey sauce. The dish made exquisite use of simple flavors to create a real impact.

After some arm-twisting, we got a sampling of desserts including gulab jamun, gajar halwa, and kulfi. My personal favorite was the gulab jamun—a fried dumpling drenched in oozing sugar syrup. The gajar halwa—a carrot pudding—and the kulfi were also both delightful and completely satisfied my sweet tooth. The perfect way to finish a superb meal.
