The Pheonix

Blink and you’ll miss this off the beaten track outfit in Victoria. But don’t let that put you off. This is an earthy and instantly popular new place and while the cooking doesn’t quite push any culinary boundaries, it’s really quite acceptable. Where it does offer something quite unique is in it’s “Express Lunch Tray”, which guarantees that the kitchen will deliver it within ten minutes of ordering. The tray features several small dishes and is exceedingly good value for money. Indeed, price levels are very reasonable here, including for the a la carte. The latter offers a good roasted chicken Ceasar salad with parmesan and croutons, ditto the salad of roast salmon with French beans and new potatoes. For mains, the twenty-one day hung rump steak with peppercorn sauce delivers a juicy and tender piece of meat, but somehow, the plate showed little evidence of the accompanying sauce. Desserts are on the comfort end vanilla and lemon cheesecake anyone, or the plum and yoghurt crunch? Environs are modern without being showy.
